North Carolina beaches run from Nags Head on the Outer Banks to Sunset Beach on the NC/SC border. The Outer Banks are barrier islands off the coast of NC that separate the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland. Their open-sea beaches, state parks, and shipwreck diving sites make them a very popular destination. Hwy 12 is the road that runs from Nags Head the whole length of the island and has been known to get covered in sand and rearranged some with storms. The Basnight Bridge towers over Oregon Inlet and connects Nags Head with Hatteras Island. The Outer Banks are known for their beautiful beaches and fishing from the beach or from one of the many sportfishing boats or from your own boat. It is always fun to go to the marinas and see the daily catch as the boats bring them in. Other things to do on the island are visit and climb the lighthouses, or sit on top of the high sand dunes and watch the sunset or hang glide on Jockeys Ridge, go see the Wright Brothers Museum and fly a replica plane, go see the Elizabeth ll Sailboat like was used in the first English attempt to colonize the new world or go see The Lost Colony Outdoor Drama or play some golf. There is also lots of shopping and dining in the area and plenty of places for provisions. There is a ferry that takes you from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island where you will find more beautiful beaches, fishing, shopping, dining, biking, and other entertainment. From Ocracoke, you can take a ferry to Cedar Island and start with homes on the water all over again. From Cedar Island to Beaufort, you will find small to large homes, from beach bungalows to 3+ stories tall. You will find activities and festivals along with all kinds of water sports. Once you reach historic Beaufort, you will find homes on the waterfront as well as on the ICW. There will also be homes that are not on the water but do have a water view. Beaufort offers all provisions as well as water activities and festivals. You will find medical needs to meet here along with anything else you need. From Beaufort you can go to Morehead City, and continue with all the amenities you will need and there is a hospital here. This area has a beautiful waterfront with shops, restaurants, charter boats, and homes. There are also many creeks, canals, and the ICW to find a home on the water or with water view. From Morehead City, you can cross the bridge and be on the Atlantic Ocean. From the Atlantic Beach area, all the way down the coast to the South Carolina border, you will find museums, Forts, Aquariums, fishing piers, all sorts of water sports, shopping, restaurants, festivals, parks, walking and biking trails, and anything else that goes with a beach. North Carolina does have some of the prettiest beaches on the east coast. The water is beautiful and great for swimming in and it is easy to get around on most of the beaches and there are plenty of amenities very close by.
