Holly Ridge is located in southern Onslow County on US 17. This small community was established in 1890 as a fuel stop for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. In 1940, this area had a dramatic change when the U.S. War Department announced plans to build a major anti-aircraft artillery training center on the site. Holly Ridge is part of the Jacksonville, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Living in Holly Ridge offers residents a suburban rural mix feel and is mostly military families. This area has a lot of bars and coffee shops. There are no schools in Holly Ridge but kids don’t have to go far into Jacksonville to go to school. Utilities are furnished by Duke Energy and Natural Gas is with PSNC Energy and Water is Aqua America. Spectrum is the most popular TV and Internet Provider. It is only 21 miles to get into Jacksonville from this location. There are many grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and all other amenities in Jacksonville and in the surrounding areas. Jacksonville also has many medical facilities and Onslow Memorial Hospital. To go to Carolina Beach from here is only approximately 37 miles. Carolina Beach will offer boating, fishing, kayaking, walking, biking, and all sorts of water sports and activities as well as shopping and dining. Holly Ridge has little to no crime so it is a convenient and friendly place to live with a family.
