Cape Carteret is an area that is located at the base of the high rise bridge that goes to Emerald Isle and along the Intracoastal Waterway. This area has permanent residents and seasonal tourists and is just a few minute's drive to the beach. There are many places for boating, fishing, swimming and water sports here. This area also has many festivals and activities throughout the year. Most of the homes and condos in this area have water views and access to the water. There are many restaurants and plenty of places to shop for groceries or other amenities, as well as tourist shops in this area. At the south end of the area is a nice grocery store and a Lowes Home Improvement store along with some banks. There is also Star Hill Golf Course located at the south end.  Another area that is a fun place to visit or dine or shop and enjoy the water is a 5-minute drive to Swansboro. This is a small, cute little town that has many things to see and do. The post office for Cape Carteret is also located here. There are also some medical facilities but the main hospital and medical area is located in Morehead City which is approximately 30 minutes away. The utilities for this area are West Carteret Water Corporation and Bogue Banks Water Corporation, and power is through Carteret Carven Co-Op. The fire department and rescue squad is Western Carteret and EMS. This area also has some waterfront parks located at the end of many streets in the area. These parks provide the opportunity to enjoy picnic areas with grills and boat ramps and some of the parks are used for parties and weddings. There are several schools located very close to this area. This area is very popular and there are homes and commercial properties for sale.
