Homes for Sale Close to Cape Lookout National Seashore
If you are looking for a home in a coastal area where there are lots to do and a lighthouse to see, visit or climb, then this area just might be what you are looking for. In the early 1800s, Congress authorized to have Cape Lookout built. It looked much different then than it does now, but it serves the same purpose now as it did then, to get boats safely back to harbor. This lighthouse is the first to be built along the outer banks of NC. It is only 3 miles off-shore, and getting to it is a fun adventure. There are ferries that take people back and forth all during the day or if you have access to a boat or kayak you can get to Cape Lookout. When you venture to the island to see the lighthouse you do have to take everything you are going to need because there is nowhere there to get anything. You must remember your lounge chair, drinks, food, and sunscreen. Once there you will enjoy all the sights and sounds and water of being on the coast. There are many safe areas to swim and the beaches and sand are beautiful. It is a perfect spot for a picnic and picking up shells. The boating is very good at the cape. You can stay on the inside, known as the hook or you can go around to the other side and be in the ocean. Many people go to this area for fishing. There are all kinds of different birds to watch and at times the horses on the island across from the cape known as Shackleford Banks will be where you can watch them. This lighthouse is also open to the public so you can climb it and see the view from the top. The island is fun to explore and see the historic villages and there is also a Keeper’s Quarters Museum to see. Once you get back to the Mainland, you will have all the amenities, restaurants, shops, grocery stores, doctors, post offices, and hospital or anything else you might need. The mainlands also have many new homes for sale and historically old homes that can be bought. Many homes are located on the water, making it possible to enjoy all the water adventures you want to have.
