Craven County consists of eight municipalities. They are: Bridgeton, Cove City, Dover, Havelock, New Bern, Riverbend, Trentwoods and Vanceboro.  Bridgeton is a pretty, southern town on the banks of the Neuse River. It is south of New Bern, and can be reached via the big bridge in New Bern. Bridgeton is only 1.5 square miles in size. Cove City is known for its blinking stop light and for its possum races. Dover residents do have to go to surrounding areas for most of their amenities. Havelock is a bigger area of craven county. This area does have water views and access and has shopping, restaurants, gas stations, doctors, banks, churches, schools and the military bases and most any amenity you need. New Bern is very historic and a pretty waterfront town. There are beautiful homes here and lots to see and do in this area. You will also find many stores, including WalMart, Target, Lowes and a mall along with doctors, a hospital, shopping, dining and other amenities.  River Bend is a residential community with a private golf course and has a navigable canal and frontage along the Trent River. There is a variety of home styles and prices in this area. Trent Woods is located just a few miles from New Bern, also.  It is situated along the Trent River. This area has quiet neighborhoods as well as churches and schools and many amenities close by. Vanceboro was originally named Swift Creek but was renamed in 1876 when Zebulon B. Vance made a visit during his campaign for Governor. Vanceboro is located along the Swift Creek and is only about 16 miles to New Bern. There are many amenities in this area.
